Thief Steals Dying Mom’s Most Valuable Possession
Monday

A dying mother of two became the victim of petty theft on her family vacation to Arlington.
The Oklahoma woman was visiting North Texas over the holiday when her car was broken into. Thieves made off with her most prized possession.
The crime happened on Sunday afternoon while Jami McElrath Bauer and her family ate lunch at the Cracker Barrel on SH 360 and Ave. J in Arlington.
The family was wrapping up what could be Bauer’s last vacation. She is dying of stage-four breast cancer.
The thief smashed the window in on their vehicle, grabbed Bauer’s backpack and drove away. Inside the backpack was a 35mm camera. Her father carried the camera through the Vietnam War and captured her family through its lens while she grew up.
It’s only worth $30, but to Bauer it’s priceless. Her father is now gone and the camera was his legacy. She had planned to leave it to her three-year-old son Chase.
The backpack also held a digital camera with pictures dating back to last Christmas. The Bauers are offering a $7,000 reward.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Arlington police.
Arlington To Be Only GM SUV Plant
Friday
Jun 6, 2008
In a not too startling development yesterday, GM announced they were closing 4 of their SUV/truck manufacturing plants.
Arlington will be the only SUV plant from GM to remain open.
The 250-acre Arlington plant site has approximately 2500 employees. Originally designed to assemble aircraft and automobiles, has been expanded seven times since launching operations in 1954 with nearly 600 employees on one shift. In 2003, Arlington produced more than 238,000 vehicles with an employee population of approximately 3,000 on two shifts. GM Arlington produces a variety of full-size sport utility vehicles — the GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Cadillac Escalade.
This is yet more sad news for areas that can’t afford the loses and thankful news for the Dallas area as our GM workers are protected in their jobs.
