Those of us in the biking community have lost one of our favorites.
Don Ashton, Area District Manager for Firestone, was killed early Saturday morning en route home from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Early reports are Don was a passenger in the Hummer and William Helton (another Firestone member) was driving and Don’s wife, Kelly was also a passenger. The Hummer was hit so hard by a Camaro that is rolled and Don was thrown out of the vehicle (he was wearing a seat belt) and died instantly. Kelly has extensive injuries with a back broken in 3 places and possible paralysis below the waist and Will suffered multiple broken bones.
Firestone management has been on the scene to facilitate the care and transport of their “family” back home to Dallas. There is no word yet on a funeral/memorial service.
For those in the Dallas area motorcycle / automotive scene, keep checking this post as updates will be made available as they arrive.

My dearest Kelly.
First of all I want you to know that I love you very much and I haven’t stop thinking about you since I heard. I know that there is nothing that I can say, no words can take the pain that you are in right now, physically/mentally. But please know that there is a God, a powerful God that is holding you right now even if it seem as though He has abandon you. He love you very much too and is hurting for you. I hope the following will lift you as it did me. From my devotional book.
Exodus 33:19, 21-23 In times of trouble Gode hides you in Christ. Safe in the cleft of the Rock, there is provision for your needs. It may not be everything you want, but He gives you what you need to get through the situation. During this difficult time, God desires to pour out His goodness upon you. He has covered you with His hand and is continually moving toward you with the answer. You may not see Him coming, but you will certinaly know when He has been there!
I may praying for you and your family. We’re going to make it darling. Love. frances 8/14/07

I’m a friend of Ken Henderson, a store manager for Firestone. I met Don through Ken. Though I didn’t know Don well, the few times I was around him, once at a Rangers game, he was most congenial and friendly. Always shook my hand, and had kind things to say. Ken always spoke highly of Don, and apparently he was highly respected by friends and co-workers. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Jack
