Arlington To Be Only GM SUV Plant
Friday
Jun 6, 2008
In a not too startling development yesterday, GM announced they were closing 4 of their SUV/truck manufacturing plants.
Arlington will be the only SUV plant from GM to remain open.
The 250-acre Arlington plant site has approximately 2500 employees. Originally designed to assemble aircraft and automobiles, has been expanded seven times since launching operations in 1954 with nearly 600 employees on one shift. In 2003, Arlington produced more than 238,000 vehicles with an employee population of approximately 3,000 on two shifts. GM Arlington produces a variety of full-size sport utility vehicles — the GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Cadillac Escalade.
This is yet more sad news for areas that can’t afford the loses and thankful news for the Dallas area as our GM workers are protected in their jobs.
