WFAA Possibly Making Anchor Changes
Tuesday
Nov 27, 2007
So the media gossip tree is rumbling that WFAA-Channel 8 (ABC) is replacing Jackie Hyland with Cynthia Izaguirre.
Cynthia’s internet claim to fame is when she was anchoring in Albuquerque she breathlessly informed the viewers that they were about to meet a “gay” mountain climber! The verbal faux pas was supposed to have informed viewers that the Mount Everest climber was in fact “blind“.

Why would anyone want to hire someone who talks about themselves for hours on end. Someone needs to put her eyes back in her head. Hopefully we won’t see anymore gay mountain climbers, cue cards, or raising cinthia’. CAN ANYONE SAY LIABILITY!

I want to know why Jackie left Channel 8 - the real reason - not a made up version. I missed the first part of her “good bye” message to viewers. I loved Jackie and felt she was an excellent addition to the Channel 8 early morning staff. Why not Janet St. James for Jackie’s replacement? Why go out of the Dallas/Ft. Worth market?
I have always listened to Channel 8 for my morning and evening news but if Jackie was “fired”, I am not going to be happy with that decision, and I won’t be listening to Cynthia.
Thanks for an honest reply.

I am very upset that Jackie Hyland left WFAA. She was the best they had, so warm and personable. The women filling in for her are awful. Jackie come back to Dallas!

You people over there in Dallas don’t know what you are talking about. Cynthia is one of the best, and if she could stay here that would be great but she has to leave.

I still miss Jackie Hyland. Really it is not the same without her. The show has lost its spark. When does the new woman start?

Good riddance Jackie Hyland, she was awful, superficial and insincere. Why is she really leaving?
Her and Farmer were like a barbie and ken doll routine…. And now Alexa shows up with her bangs again!
I’ll stick with FOX

Cynthia is doing a good job at Daybreak. I was happy when I found out that Jackie was gone. I had stopped watching Daybreak because I was tired of listening to Jackie talk about herself and try to be in the spotlight all the time. I have always watched Daybreak, but couldn’t take Jackie anymore. Then I discovered Jackie was gone, so I switched back to Daybreak. I like Justin and Greg very much. Alexa is okay sometimes. And, Cynthia is a nice addition. So far, I enjoy watching her.

Cynthia needs to lighten up about saying her name…….Cynthia Izzzzzaaaaaguuuuuuuiiiiiiireeeeeeeeee. Around here it’s pronounced IZAGUIRRE…..short and simple. She just needs to go back to where ever she came from. She is so fake you can see right through her. I’ve read other blogs that say…..she’s hot. Whoever said that needs to get their eyes checked.
Editor’s Note: Jerry, thanks for taking the time to comment on Cynthia Izaguirre role at WFAA. Feel free to comment at Dallas Is My Home often!

I’ve stopped watching News 8 Daybreak because I got tired of hearing Cynthia pronounce her last name. Then she was filling in at the 10:00 PM news and I stopped watching that too. I’ve switched back to Channel 5. Everyone there knows how to pronounce their name so it doesn’t offend anybody. I can’t even stand to here her say “THAAAAANNNNKKKKKK YOUUUUUUU AAAALLEEEXXIIIAAAA”

Alexia does a better job than Cynthia ever thought about doing. Cynthia makes me sick every time I hear her say her last name. I’ve noticed she’s toned it down a little bit but it’s still a little much. Maybe she’s read this blog…..I hope so.

I read on another blog that Cynthia’s off more than she’s at work. Maybe she’s out looking for another job or working at Wal-Mart as a checker. She needs to just bow out gracefully and realize that Dallas may be her home but she’s just not right for the Dallas / Ft. Worth area.

What difference does it make how she pronounces her name. If you live in the DFW area look around there are alot of people who pronounce their name the same way and channel 8 know’s it. As long she does a good job that’s what counts, but I do miss Jackie and Justin.

I have lived in at least 3 major cities, and have visited many other US metro-cities during the last 25 years, and I can tell you Cynthia does a great job. I can’t understand what is the issue with her natural ability to pronounce her name and any other latin/hispanic name or surname the right way. Is not the same when a Irish pronounces his/her own last name the right way, or the Italian puts the right seasoning to his language and heritage. What about Arnold’s-(Terminator) accent. What about the English accent on some of variety shows or documentaries and the Cooking shows with chinese or french cooks, speaking to the audience. It is interesting to see how in a Southern State such as Texas with a huge Hispanic Heritage, in the middle of the first decade of the XXI century, you still have segments of the population feeling uncomfortable about insignificant issues like this, which are in my opinion racist remarks. Cynthia Izaguirre is a great professional, her work is clear evidence that she means business and is serious about her commitment to her audience regardless of their differences. In one nutshell, everyone is sensitive about the pronounciation of their names, if you are, allow the woman to say it the right way. Grow up!

I have been watching Cynthia since her first day in Dallas. She has been a wonderful change. With the creation of her “Our Neighbor” segments she has taken the time to show us all that Dallas really does have the best people in the world. I’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting and having a conversation with her. And despite whether or not you appreciate the effort she puts into making her delivery more personal, and less stoic and cold, most of you need to why she gives a little piece of herself during the news cast. Cynthia really does love your city. So much so that after making a life in New Mexico for 8 years, which included taking her previous station to the number one slot, she gave it all up to move back to her home. So the next time you watch her keep in mind that maybe we should all be as dedicated and be as willing to give a piece of ourselves to our city as she is.

Did Cynthia turn you down in high school? Why are you bashing her all over the internet.
You’re just increasing her popularity! Not that she needs your help.

Cynthia was loved by New Mexico and her personality brought life to Channel 7. Her replacement is stiff and although she has loosened a bit she can’t replace Cynthia. Cynthia was a great anchor person and she had the ability to loosen up her co-anchors and make them more audience friendly. It’s too bad the comments I’ve read show signs of a racist. The remarks indicate a sign of jealously that a hispanic can succeed in their careers. Cynthia, you go girl!
