SMU Fires Football Coach

Phil Bennett had one objective this season: Get the team to a Bowl game.

With the Mustangs losing to Tulsa this past weekend, that objective became an impossibility.

SMU has handed Bennett his walking papers - though he is slotted to finish the season. The university has been working to come back from the “death penalty” it was hit with in the late ’80’s. Almost twenty years later and they are still trying to achieve that.

Additionally, the rest of the coaching staff’s contracts will not be renewed either.

Athletic Director, Steve Orsini, will immediately begin searching for a new coach.

Forgive the TMZ.com approach to this posting but this is a serious situation.

At this moment (5p) the Dallas PD and DART PD are speaking with a DART bus driver who has told them that a passenger claimed to have left a bomb on the bus.

The bus is currently at a stop in downtown Dallas and has been evacuated.

It’s the midst of Friday rush hour and Police have closed off access to Akard & Elm Streets.

As we are on Elm Street ourselves and being buzzed by the police and news helicopters, we will keep this posting updated as things develop.

UPDATE: As of 6p. The police have arrested the person claiming to have left the bomb on the bus. According to witnesses he was dancing around and tried to run when police approached him. He was captured though. Supposedly the police have found a “device” aboard the bus but are still analyzing it.

UPDATE: As of 7:30p. NO BOMB HAS BEEN FOUND!
